Week 23

Monday, June 5th
When Colombo asked me back in April about a dinner cruise in Boston Harbor for a work thing he had, I thought it sounded delightful!  Boat, dinner, date, free, June...all the right ingredients.  The morning of, I contemplated bringing my winter coat as I looked at the 55 and rainy forecast.  Oh well...we still had fun.  Got the date part in!  He had meetings during the day, so I scooted up to Nick and Katie's for a couple of hours and then we hooked back up for the reception and Harbor cruise.

We got to see the 3-truck "Wicked" convoy headed for their 3-week stay in Boston.
I also got to see where Milo goes to school, the Waldorf School.  It's very 'hippie' even by Katie's standards!  It's in the middle of the woods, there are no primary colors or modern toys.  The dolls don't even have faces.  They let the kids' imaginations do all the work.  The kids aren't even allowed to wear clothes with patterns or characters.

It was definitely "interesting" to observe the pick-up scene.  Milo had fallen asleep, so I ended up leaving before I could see him.

This was the view.  In fact, the windows steamed up on the inside as the night went on.  BUT, I did win $250 in a raffle drawing!
Maddy covered for us during the day, and Papa picked up the evening shift.
Tuesday, June 6th
Oh my goodness.  Here's a story- I'll try to make it quick.  The night before, C4 had called just before midnight curfew, saying he started down the road from Kelly's house and he heard a loud thump, scraping, and his car sounded like a jet engine.  He parked it and my husband ran over to deal with the symptoms of a fallen muffler.  Well, come to find out, where the muffler severed and came off up front near the engine, it made the car impossible to drive because it wasn't dragging; it was pushing.  They left it for the night.

The next day- my husband swamped with work- I volunteered to go 'investigate'.  He and I had differing opinions as to how to handle.  He told C4 to take a saw and simply hacksaw it off.  I told C4, "Grab a couple coat hangers and a towel."  I called and warned the mechanic that we'd be in for a visit.  I filled my water, popped a bag of popcorn for lunch and drove my beloved firstborn back to his girlfriend's house.

As luck would have it, a 'service van' of some sort was also in the driveway.  Oh, and it was drizzling.  I let him get on the towel and attempt to hacksaw the muffler free.  I watched and giggled for about 15 minutes, munching my popcorn, as he successfully sawed about 2 flakes of rust free.  It was apparent Daddy's idea was a dead end.

Realizing I was needed, I put the popcorn down and joined C4 on the wet ground to see how I could help, he on one side of the car, myself on the other.  We looked and chatted about a couple different ideas, each struggling one-armed to team work this muffler into suspension to make the car drivable.  Then the rain started to really come down.  Then I glanced back to see two boots of the driver of the service van digging around in the back of his van.  His view: me.  On my belly.  In the rain, now LAUGHING so hard I was useless!!!

More wrangling, more failure, more just-about-got-it-until-our-arms-gave-out-or-our-fingers-weren't-long-enough.  Finally, I came up with the idea to insert something into the break and wedge it up high enough to get it off the ground.  Thanks to C4, we randomly had some tribal stick thing in his trunk (???!!!) and thanks to Daddy, we had a hacksaw to cut it to size.  We somehow jerry-rigged it into place and started to the mechanic's with about an inch of clearance from the ground.  We each stayed on speaker phone the whole way.  Still giggling.

Miraculously, it held.  He parked it and we walked into the office, and I said, "We're here!"  Pete, grinning from ear to ear, said, "I heard ya coming!!!"  I left the keys and on the way out the door laughed, "Oh, by the way...there may be a stick jammed up in there holding things together!"

For the record...the Pete the mechanic later gave me props for my skills!!!
Wednesday, June 7th
Probably the most expensive picture I've ever taken- 3 at the orthodontist.  Trevor is well on his way. Nathanael's next in line for braces, and Maddy's investigating Invisalign for one rogue tooth (plus some general straightening) that bothers her.
The church held an INCREDIBLE night of worship.  Such a powerful evening- the worship, the message, the presence of the Holy Spirit.  And what a gift to worship with my family!
Thursday, June 8th
We got the kids Six Flags passes for Christmas; a first for our family.  I wanted to take them at least once before public schools let out.  Somehow May came and went, but we finally made it and it couldn't have been a more perfect day!  We had so.much.fun.  I hadn't ridden many rides in the last 20 years.  I was either pregnant, holding a baby, or standing with the stroller.  The weather was PERFECT and we didn't stand in any line for more than 3 minutes.  Some rides, no line at all.  Rocco is tall enough for everything except two.  Renna can do quite a bit as long as I'm with her.

We did this water ride all together.  Trevor, who actually said it wasn't a water ride didn't get a single drop on him while Renna and I got completely soaked!

We were in line for the next ride when Renna vanished from my sight.  I looked down to find her 'warming up' like she does near the pool!
My front row coaster lover.  She did this one 4 times in a row.

This one was our favorite of the day.   Renna rode it 6 times.
Happy to see my Dad back in the saddle...or back on the seat!
Saturday, June 10th
Colombo and I had the privilege of attending Bob and Jules' oldest son, Justin's wedding.  Phones and cameras were asked to be put away during the ceremony, but I snapped a couple during the reception.    The bride, Joy, had changed into traditional Korean wedding dress as she is half Korean.  Strangely enough, EXACTLY one year ago I was at another wedding for a different Justin and Joy!!

Bob delivered an amazing toast, as did Josh (younger brother / best man).  Josh was so thoughtful, meaningful, and tender and made everyone cry!
Jules looked as classy and stunning as ever!
This is Bob's most delightful niece, Sarah, who is like a little clone of Maddy.  She and her twin brother Ben are Nathanael's age and we've hung with them quite a bit.  In fact, Ben and Sarah ended up at our house for the night.
Bob and Jules held an after-party for close friends and family.  A celebration of the wedding and the unveiling of their newly renovated backyard, deck, patio.  It was a lovely evening.  Maybe you can see Renna in this picture.
As everyone filtered out and left, everyone who came to say goodbye to me would start, "I just have to tell you what Renna said..."   HILARIOUS!!!!

Well Karen (pictured above) was chatting with Renna.  This exact picture was about a 45 minute conversation.  As Karen left, she said, "I have to tell you what Renna said.  We chatted about this, chatted about that.  Heard about Maddy's new car.  Heard about her opinion of the color of Bob's new front door.  On and on.  Then she glanced down at my shoes next to my chair.  She said, 'I see your shoes there.'  I thought she was going to tell me she liked them but instead she said, 'We have a place for those.  They go by the door.'"  !!!

Sunday, June 11th
We went to noon service with Ben and Sarah who had slept over.  Maddy just "threw her hair up".
Renna chatted it up with Dave.  That girl has never met a stranger!
I had a VBS meeting and then I caught up with Renna at Yahaira's birthday.  Renna had gone ahead with Auntie Annie because Colombo had a board meeting.  Sweet Baby Caleb ended up falling asleep on Nathanael.
Then we did a family dinner for Rocco's birthday!  Busy day-fun weekend!

Week 22

Monday, May 29th
Happy Birthday, Rocco!  (Previously posted)
Happy Memorial Day!  Our Harkness plans were cancelled because of rain, so we last-minute threw together a little get-together at our house.  Tacos, because nothing screams American patriotism like tacos!

Renna, ready for bed.  Backpack included.
Tuesday, May 30th
Now that Rocco's 8, he's allowed to Air-soft.  He's been looking forward to it for a long time.
For obvious reasons, the following pictures did not hit social media and are a tad disturbing.  The extra wraps are just to avoid welts in the face and neck area.  The sunglasses are because they have to have safety glasses, but no one keeps track of the clear ones.

...and Renna's daily dose of diva.
C4 had "Senior Send-Off", and his senior picnic.

She has two speeds: on and off.
Gramma came to Rocco's game.  Hard to believe it's the end of May and we need hoodies and blankets at 6pm.
 Wednesday, May 31st
 Target practice.

I steamed The Boy's gown.  And I cried.  My tactic was to get out all my crying before commencement.  All the little 'lasts' and steps to get to the end of the year and prepare for graduation; all the time spent digging up old photos for slideshows, I figured I boo-hoo through all of that in hopes of holding it together at the actual graduation!
Maddy had mentioned to a handful of friends over the time of The Passion what she was looking for in a car.  James paid attention, so when his uncle mentioned he was buying something new, James hooked us up.  James called us at 11am and by 2pm she was driving it and committing.  It was exactly what she'd been researching and shopping for...even the year and color, and a much better, trusted deal than expected.  It was a quick, right place, right time kind of thing.  She diligently saved, we matched dollar for dollar (same deal we gave C) and she has a car!  Even though she won't be licensed until September.
C3 and I took C4 to his Baccalaureate Mass in East Hartford.  A beautiful service and the priest gave a very appropriate and applicable homily for the kids.

The mom I asked to take a quick picture had apparently never seen an iPhone or ever taken a picture.     It was so painful for all involved to even get this one.  Ugh!!!  Should've found a six year old!
We had pulled out the flashlights in case we lost power. (See sky in above picture.)  So Renna decided to take one to bed.
Thursday, June 1st
I paid the kids to help with the dumb deck, wiping pollen as fast as it fell.
This happened, but I'll post more later.
Friday, June 2nd
Renna was HOT STUFF, going with Auntie to 'Lunch Bunch' at Gabby and Gigi's school.

Saturday, June 3rd
All of my pictures were from C4's graduation party, which I'll include in his Grad post.

Sunday, June 4th
Nick, Katie, Milo, Ollie, Trey, and Wyatt had all spent the night.

I was missing the kids for a few minutes and finally found them huddled around Milo's iPad on the charger watching The Lorax.
