Week 11

Monday, Mar. 13th
No picture.

Tuesday, Mar. 14th
All snuggly in anticipation of a big snowstorm.  Before even going to bed Monday night, the entire state was shut down, including a travel ban.
I took it fell fast, so we took turns going out every couple hours to keep up with it.  In the end, our 18 predicted inches were actually only 10.
Wednesday, Mar. 15th
I texted Uncle Lee to ask how upstate NY faired in the storm.  He texted me a picture from the inside of their kitchen with the snow drifts up covering the windows.  His caption said something about it being very Little House on the Prarie-ish.  I got a kick out of it!
I signed the kids up for an 8 week Homeschool Swim and Gym- indoor swimming on Wednesdays and gym class on Fridays.  We are all big fans!
I sat through Renna's acro class.  I love watching Maddy teach.
In case you didn't know, hockey never ends.  Never.  On the calendar alone it's seven months, but then there are tryouts, spring league, fall league, team parties, tournaments...  It.never.ends.  So even though Nathanael's season was "over" (that's a fake word), he was called up to play for the 'A' team in their tournament.  So, back to Northford we went.

Thursday, Mar. 16th
Gramma and Bobbi picked Renna up and took her on a special birthday adventure to The Lutz.

The worst kind of torture- odd socks pairing.

Back at the rink for Game 2.  These kids are so good about getting dragged all over.  It was a treat to be able to see the game from the warm hallway.

Blurry, but worth it.

His coach gave him the Player of the Game necklace.
Friday, Mar. 17th
Week 4 of the Open.
Homeschool gym class- ironically, a tad more frightening than 'homeschool swim', which I had braced myself for.
They played Capture the Flag and Kickball.  Somehow they made it work with 30+ kids aged 5-19.

Renna's got mad skills in the outfield!
I scooted over to watch Colombo do his open and then we actually got a sitter and went to dinner with Larry and Lil.  It'd been forever and was such a treat!
Saturday, Mar. 18th
Maddy had her 3rd competition and Nathanael had Game 3 and 4 of his tournament.

How the boys do competition.
Sunday, Mar. 19th
More competition, lots of loving fans, and Daddy's dinner to finish the day!

Week 10

Monday, March 6th
Our little birthday princess turned 5!
Wanna know how to make a Mama sob?  Ask her to collect some of her senior's pictures through the years to submit for different slideshows.  Good gracious, I poured over the the albums and boo-hoo'ed unashamedly.  It's all happening so fast!

On the subject of C, I forgot to include a picture / memory in last week's post.  We never wait for C4 after his games, because the boys shower in the locker rooms and take the bus back.  But since Kelly and Amy were at the Conard game, he was going to come out and say hi, so we waited.  When he came out he had a minor gash on his chin.  We debated about whether to take him for a stitch or two.  We missed urgent care (cheaper!) by just a few minutes, so he and C3 ended up at the E.R. at 11pm, arriving home at 1am.  They ended up gluing it and now a couple weeks later it's looking good.  I think he'll be happy that we didn't just let it go.  Scroll past if you don't want to see.
Tuesday, Mar. 7th
Piper the hamster survived her first week in our home and Renna was in charge of making sure she didn't roll down the stairs while Nathanael cleaned out her cage.

Wednesday, Mar. 8th
Elizabeth was in Africa on a mission's trip for ten days, so I had planned to get together with Tim.  We decided to meet at Mom's and have the kids 'help' with some spring cleanup in the yard.
The kids took turns driving the tractor up and down our very quiet childhood street.

Face-timing with Beth, half way around the world- amazing!!

First round of States took us to Xavier, where we lost 2-1, C4's very last high school varsity hockey game.
In between periods the kids ran the track.  The Wesleyan campus is so very beautiful!

Lainie and Katie, who spent the night, were thrilled to be at Bill's alma mater.
Thursday, Mar. 9th
Busy morning!
We drove out to Pop's to bring him lunch and swap kids back with Tim, who had taken Rocco.
Maddy last-minute substituted for the teen ballet class.

Friday, Mar. 10th
Perhaps the school cancellation was not necessary.  The couple new inches never stuck to the roads, but it made for a gorgeous ride to the gym.
 Week 3 of the Open.
The Mendez's hosted our small group together for a potluck and game night.  Good food, lots of laughs.  The kids took over the basement and the adults played a girls vs. boys game.  We also met a new family that also goes to Crossroads.

My teens "go out" after youth group Friday nights.  Just like I did 25 years ago.  Memories...
Saturday, Mar. 11th
Rocco had his cute little team banquet.  I was reminded just how annoying precious 7 and 8 year old boys who aren't yours are.

Colombo did a nice job saying something lovely about each player and giving them their trophy.  Everyone I spoke to spoke very, very highly of Colombo and his character and coaching ability.  He's a pretty likable guy!

He thanked all his coaches one-by-one.  It was so nice to have Chris as part of the coaching staff.

We tried a new restaurant with Bob and Jules.  Seemed like it'd been forever since we'd been out with them.  We went back to their house for a little longer to continue our conversation.  She non-chalantly unstrapped her ankle piece and laid it on the table mid-sentence.  Love her!
Sunday, Mar. 12th
I drove out to my Dad's church in Putnam to see me 'little' brother preach.  He continually amazes me.  It seems his gifts and talents and strengths have no limit.  He spoke so clearly, he was so engaging, no 'ums', made great eye contact often, scanning the entire sanctuary.  In the third row a Russian very audibly translated the sermon to husband and even with that distraction, he never faltered.  His message was solid, right on, challenging, applicable and he even inserted his humor in a few spots.  So impressed!
Rehearsal hit the stage!  It's always fun to get out of the choir room and onto the stage.  Progress!
Jon, Annie, and the girls joined us for Daddy's dinner.
